Day # 4: Fargo, North Dakota

No pics with this blog....it's been foggy and/or grey since we left the Wal-Mart parking lot in Waterville, SD, where we spent the night. Not bad except for the bright lights and some noise from trucks. But we were off to the side of the parking lot; our camper has tinted windows....and we were tired. Went to see Indiana Jones last night and contrary to Andrea's take on the movie, we liked it.

I did some blogs last night in Outlook, and didn't find any place to connect with WiFi....and was it a slick idea on my part (toot my own horn!) ...saw a Days Inn and that they had free WiFi. We pulled up in the parking lot and was able to pick up the internet! Woopee! Last night wasn't able to post, but did get my e-mail. From the parking lot, while I was looking at the mail, Chris spotted a Starbucks across the street. So, this am, we took another tour through Day's Inn parking lot; presto the postings were sent out of my e-mail in short order. Didn't have to go to Starbuck's and PAY for internet. The latte would have been good, though.

We stopped here in Fargo, because I want to go to Best Buy and ask them about not being able to view movies on my 'puter. Came into the mall here and found WiFi! Hence, no pictures since haven't been anywhere to take any pics of fog and dreary clouds.

signing off for now....should cross the Canadian border tomorrow sometime. Pray for Grandma VanderHorst....not doing well.

Wasn't planning on breaking camp early this am but we heard thunder in the
distance and the sky looked bad. So we switched into high gear. No fun
breaking camp in the rain. We can do it fairly efficiently.
We managed to skirt the rain storms fairly well, although there was lots of
thunder and lightening as we drove out of the camp.
In the western part of Iowa, we had some fun sights: a 20 ft. statue of
Pokahontas, a smiley face cut in the grass at a gas station, and an awesome
"wind farm" w/ loads of windmills (wind generators) for as far as they eye
can see.
We drove mostly 55 mph and had a whopping 16.8 mpg going, but had a nice
tailwind. Granted the picture of the wind generator is not the best; I had
to mess with the contrast, etc. to even make them show up.
We made camp in a Wal-Mart parking lot. Looks like this is the popular
place....more campers are stopping for the night. We're going to a movie
(Indiana Jones)and then ask around to see if I can find an internet
connection somewhere. g-nite

Worst-Case Scenario? That's a scary thought!

These are some unique items that we have in our preparation
"bag of tricks". Andrea thought of these two books and gave them to Chris
for his birthday. They are a unique compilation of some very cool scenario'
s like what to do if we encounter a bear, or a "big foot" (do they exist?),
some common edible forest plants (that's incase we get marooned and run out
of our huge stash of provisions), and how to build a warm bed on a cold
forest floor (that's in case our camper blows off the truck). These are
some real handy sources of information. I brought along several books to
read, but might have to fight Chris for these.

DAY #2 Leaving Chicago. STICKER SHOCK?

"All is relative." Who would-a-thunk that we'd be happy with $4.09 for
gas??? But in Naperville, IL it was $4.22. So when we had to get off for
gas, we were happy to find $4.09. Yup. All is relative. We're going to
cross the Mississippi soon, heading to Dubuque, Iowa; then north into
Minnesota. P.S. 50 miles down the road in Clinton, Iowa, just across the
Big Muddy, where we had lunch along the shores, gas was $3.75. Go figure.

They're alive mom told me to tell you.  They were goign to be in no hurry to get out of camp this morning, till they heard thunder and they'd rather not pack up in the rain, so they sprinted out of camp to get on the road before it happened.  They stayed in a city camp last night for about 13 bucks I think they said.  And ate lunch on the shores of the mississippi yesterday.

We are finally gone. Andrea and David brought Charolette over so we can say goodbuy. A double kiss for our girl.

Tommy has the plush seat so she can see everything.
